Programmable up-converter simplifies basestations
Intersil has added a new highly integrated quad up-convertor to its CommLinkT family of digital radio ICs for fixed basestation applications.
They are aimed at the fast growing home gateway market including broadband appliances such as cable modems, set-top boxes and broadband wireless-access subscriber terminals.
Devices include the ISL6520, a single output synchronous buck PWM controller delivering an inexpensive and highly efficient solution for advanced and embedded communications processors and DSP chips.
The resulting output voltage is lower than the input voltage.
The ISL6119 is a new USB dual-port power supply controller that allows USB port power connections to be safely made without turning off the home gateway.
The ISL6119 manages the 500mA power lines available on the USB standard bus by controlling the ramp of the +5V USB output.
If a short is detected, the USB hot plug IC rapidly limits power, protecting sensitive main system bus and peripheral electronics such as a printers and cameras.
Samples of the ISL6520 and ISL6119 are currently available, and production shipments for both devices will begin in the first quarter of 2001.
Both the ISL6119 and ISL6520 are available in SO-8 tape-and-reel as well as bulk packages.
