Programmable up-converter simplifies basestations
Intersil has added a new highly integrated quad up-convertor to its CommLinkT family of digital radio ICs for fixed basestation applications.
The new DACs are available in 10, 12 and 14bit versions that operate at a maximum clock speed of up to 130MHz.
They support all current and next generation 2G and 3G mobile cellular telephone protocols allowing cellular systems to be easily upgraded as new protocols are introduced.
The ISL5961 achieves better than 70dBc spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) when operating at sampling frequencies up to 210Msample/s with an output frequency centred at 15MHz.
For the cellular basestation market, the device achieves 3G-UMTS adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) performance of greater than 70dB at an output frequency of 15.36MHz while updating the device at a rate of 76.8Msample/s.
For 2.5G- EDGE systems, the device yields SFDR performance of 86dBc at 2MHz offset from a carrier frequency of 15MHz.
Unlike conventional DACs which often require manual adjustment, Intersil's ISL5X61 series automatically delivers increased levels of SFDR stability in setup and hold timing, giving designers less stringent requirements for input timing and simplifying overall transmitter design.
The devices also feature low power consumption (under 100mW at maximum update rate) and sleep mode capability, further reducing power consumption in idle channel conditions.
The CommLink ISL5X61 family of industry standard pin-compatible DACs operates from a +3.3V supply voltage at clock speeds up to 130MHz.
