from Intersil

"There will be an increasing demand for wireless LAN solutions in China and this cooperative agreement will enable us to introduce advanced wireless LAN technology into China".
"This strategic agreement with Legend represents a colossal springboard for Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11) wireless networking in the Asia Pacific area and is an extraordinary opportunity for Intersil to expand its WLAN sales in this fast growing region", said Larry Ciaccia, vice president and general manager for Intersil's Wireless Networking Business.
Quanta selected Intersil as its premier WLAN solution supplier and will incorporate Intersil's Prism 2.5 WLAN chip set in its next generation notebook computers.
The Prism 2.5 wireless networking chip set is optimized for smaller form factors in embedded WLAN applications such as mini-PCI cards and single-sided PCMCIA cards.
The significant board space reduction achieved by Prism 2.5 also opens the door for Quanta to incorporate dual-mode networking capabilities such as the addition of Bluetooth, v.90 modems or Ethernet chipsets on the same embedded WLAN card.
"Quanta selected Intersil as strategic wireless solution supplier because its Prism technology provides low-cost, high performance Wi-Fi (802.11b) wireless networking solutions targeting consumer applications", said Michael Chen, senior vice-president of Quanta.
"Intersil's Prism wireless networking technology will enable Quanta to manufacture next generation PCs and other wireless devices with embedded WLAN applications".
"The alliance between Intersil and Quanta is an important catalyst in the use of embedded wireless technology for notebooks and PDAs", said Greg Williams, president and CEO of Intersil.
