The Intersil Endura HIP6311A is a multiphase power controller that is the world's first +/-0.5% tolerance product to meet the power requirements of Intel's new and next generation MPUs.

The Intersil Endura HIP6311A is a multiphase power controller that is the world's first +/-0.5% tolerance product to meet the stringent power requirements of Intel's new and next generation microprocessors This new chip provides extremely accurate power control for high-performance Pentium microprocessors operating at 1GHz and more in PC motherboards, workstations and servers

The HIP6311A offers the industry's highest performance and most cost-effective multiphase DC/DC convertor solution to comply with Intel's Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) Specification 9.x for its next generation processors.

It controls microprocessor core voltage regulation by driving two to four synchronous-rectified buck channels in parallel.

The multiphase buck topology takes advantage of interleaving phases to increase ripple frequency and reduce input and output ripple currents.

The result is fewer components, reduced component ratings, lower power dissipation, and space savings.

The HIP6311A features a 5bit DAC that adjusts the core voltage from 1.100 to 1.850V with an unsurpassed accuracy of +/-0.5% over temperature.

This tolerance is absolutely necessary for new and next generation processors and puts the HIP6311A ahead of all other solutions.

Other advanced features include a precision channel-current balance that evenly distributes heat and serves to conserve board space and reduce mosfet costs.

Costs and board space are further reduced because the HIP6311A uses no-loss current sensing without the need for conventional sensing resistors.

The programmable droop voltage and fast transient response helps control supply glitching to improve operational reliability.

System designers can use two, three or four phases, giving them the flexibility and scalability needed for next generation microprocessor deigns.

interleaved phase control (ie not all phases are switched on all at the same time) results in higher ripple frequency and lower ripple voltage allowing smaller filter components to be used saving costs in parts and board space.

The HIP6311A is available in a 20-lead SOIC package for 0 to +70C operation.

It is fully supported with reference designs, an evaluation platform and technical assistance to ensure lower costs and short time to market.
