Analogue switches improve on speed and size
Intersil has added a new line of high-performance solid-state analogue switches.
Intersil has added a new line of high-performance solid-state analogue switches.
The ISL84541, ISL84542, ISL84543 and ISL84544 switches feature enhanced specifications over a wider temperature range than standard switches making them ideal for applications including portable battery-powered equipment where size and low power consumption are important.
These new low-voltage single-supply switches are available as dual single-pole single-throw (SPST) or single-pole double-throw (SPDT) in small SOT-23 packaging and offer characterisation improvements over the industry parts they are designed to replace.
The ISL84541, ISL84542, ISL84543 and ISL84544 are pin compatible with the MAX4541-4, MAX323-5, DG9262-3, and DG9461 devices but offer enhanced specification ratings at both +3.3 and +5V supply voltages, all measured over the full temperature and supply voltage range.
By maintaining a second supplier in high-volume applications, customers reduce their risk of part shortages when industry demand strains supplier capacity.
The ISL84541/2/3/4 devices are precision dual analogue switches that operate from a single +2.7 to +12V supply.
The ISL84541, ISL84542 and ISL84543 are offered in the 8-lead SOT-23 package, and the ISL84544 is offered in the 6-lead SOT-23 package.
These packages meet the needs of high-growth portable appliance markets.
Other packaging styles are also available.
The ISL84541, ISL84542 and ISL84543 offer dual SPST configurations, and the ISL84544 offers a single SPDT configuration.
The ISL84541 features two normally open (NO) switches, and the ISL84542 features two normally closed (NC) switches.
The ISL84543 features one NO and one NC switch offering optional SPDT functionality, while the ISL84544 is a SPDT switch that can easily be utilised as a high performance 2-to-1 multiplexer.
Applications include portable battery-powered equipment in which small space and low power consumption are important.
Extremely low power consumption (<5 æW) extends battery life, low leakage currents (100pA max) lengthen hold times in sample-and-hold-circuits, and fast switching speeds (typically 35ns switch-on and 25ns switch-off) reduce propagation delay in timing-sensitive applications.
The parts offer minimal charge injection (5pC max) to maximise signal integrity, and they come in some of the smallest packages alleviating board space limitations.
This combination of features makes Intersil's newest switches an ideal solution for low-power space-constrained applications.
