Power management optimised for Intel chipset

Intersil's Endura HIP6302 and HIP6601B high-performance analogue power management ICs are now available in versions customised for the new Intel 845G chipset based motherboards.

The Intel 845G chipset is the first Intel chipset with integrated graphics for Pentium 4 processor-based desktop computer motherboards and provides a high-performance video and gaming platform for mainstream PCs.

"Our field and factory applications engineers worked with Intel engineers to develop the highest-performance, lowest cost, CPU core multiphase dc/dc converter solution for the new Intel 845G chip-set platform", said Rick Furtney, vice president and general manager of Intersil's High Performance Analogue Product Group.

The Endura solution for the Intel 845G chipset platform was designed with performance and cost-savings in mind.

Power for the processor is precisely managed using Intersil's Endura HIP6302 two-phase, voltage regulation module (VRM) 9.0-compliant, pulse width modulation (PWM) controller combined with two Endura HIP6601B synchronous rectified buck N-channel mosfet drivers.

The Intersil solution uses the lower mosfet drain-to-source resistance as a free current-sensing element.

This reduces the total bill of materials while providing strict VRM 9.0 load line performance compliance meeting Intel's specifications.

This Intersil topology and design enables quick and easy transfer of the core regulator layout from one motherboard to another and greatly reduces costs and time to market.
