Analogue switches shrink for speedy operation

The ISL84516 and ISL84517 are the latest addition to the Intersil MightyMUX high-performance analogue switch line.

The ISL84516 and ISL84517 are the latest addition to the Intersil MightyMUX high-performance analogue switch line.

Both switches are single-pole single-throw (SPST) configured and operate from +/-1.5 to +/-6V dual-polarity supplies.

The ISL84516 has normally open contacts while the ISL84517 has normally closed.

These new low-voltage, low-power switches are ideal for power switching in portable and high-performance battery-powered equipment in which space and power consumption are concerns including high-precision equipment used for medical, communications, multimedia and testing.

They feature very low leakage currents (1nA maximum) which lengthen hold times in sample-and-hold-circuits, and fast switching speeds (switch-on time is 40ns, switch-off time is 30ns) to reduce propagation delay in timing sensitive applications.

These switches offer minimal charge injection (10pC) to maximise signal integrity.

This combination of features makes Intersil's newest switches an ideal solution for low-power space-constrained applications.

Available in both 8-lead SOIC and 5-lead SOT-23 packages, the ISL84516 and ISL84517 are pin compatible with the Maxim MAX4516 and MAX4517 devices, offering improved performance and a reliable second source supplier for high-volume applications.

Applications include low-voltage DACs and ADCs, sample and hold circuits, digital filters, op-amp gain switching etc in portable appliances (cellular phones, pagers, notebooks, PDAs), communications systems (radios, PBX, switches, routers), test equipment (logic analysers, spectrum analysers, multimeters, avionics), medical equipment (ultrasound, electrocardiograph, MRI, patient monitoring, CAT), head-up displays and audio and video switching.
