Flexible format for speedy switches

Intersil has made three additions to its MightyMUX high-performance analogue switch line.

Intersil has three new additions to its MightyMUX high-performance analogue switch line: the ISL84521, ISL84522 and the ISL84523.

The switches are ideal for applications including portable battery-powered equipment such as cellular phones, pagers, notebooks, PDAs etc in which space and power consumption are concerns, as well as high-precision equipment used in medical, communications, and testing equipment.

These new quad switches follow closely on the heels of seven products already released this quarter and add further flexibility for designers of low-voltage applications in portable equipment and high precision instrumentation.

They feature low leakage currents (10nA maximum) to lengthen hold times in sample-and-hold-circuits and fast switching speeds (switch-on time 45ns, switch-off time 15ns) to reduce propagation delays in timing sensitive applications.

These switches also offer minimal charge injection of only 5pC (maximum) to maximise signal integrity.

The tiny 3 x 3mm QFN package requires very little board space.

This combination of features makes Intersil's newest switches an ideal solution for low-power space-constrained applications.

Each of these new ICs provides four single-pole single-throw (SPST) configured switches and operate from a single 2 to 12V supply or a dual +/-2 to +/-6V supply.

The ISL84521 has all normally closed (NC) switches, whereas the ISL84522 features all normally open (NO) switches.

The ISL84523 has two normally open and two normally closed switches, which can be configured as a double-pole double-throw (DPDT) switch or as dual two-to-one multiplexers.

All devices can be used as switches or multiplexers.

Each of these new Intersil MightyMux switches is available in 16-lead SOIC, 16-lead TSSOP and 16-pad QFN packages.

They can be sued as drop-in replacements for the Maxim MAX4521, MAX4522 and MAX4523, respectively, to provide higher performance and provide an alternative high-volume supplier.
