Sharp Corp has selected Intersil's Prism wireless LAN chipset to provide Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b) connectivity for its new NotevisionM25X wireless projector.

Sharp Corp has selected Intersil's Prism wireless LAN chipset to provide Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11b) connectivity for its new NotevisionM25X wireless projector that maximises business productivity in meetings.

The NotevisionM25X uses Sharp's exclusive image compression algorithm to permit real-time data transmission over a wireless network.

Weighing only 2.6kg, the NotevisionM25X features native XGA resolution and 1900lm brightness - features found in heavier, more expensive projectors.

Sharps' newly developed vector quantisation (VQ) technology makes it possible to compress and decompress still images with high compression rates and high image quality.

The NotevisionM25X enables multiple wireless PC users to project presentations and other data without physically wiring each PC to the multimedia projector.

"Sharp's new NotevisionM25X wireless projector is a great example of a new class of innovative products being enabled by Prism and Wi-Fi functionality", said Larry Ciaccia, Vice President and General Manager of Intersil's Wireless Networking Product Group.

"The development of new and specific Wi-Fi business applications and products demonstrates how 802.11b technology is changing the way business gets done in the home-office and in the enterprise".

Intersil's Prism chipsets are the most highly integrated WLAN silicon solutions on the market.

Prism chip sets deliver wireless Ethernet networking with compliance to the Wi-Fi (802.11b) global standard.

Optimised for high-datarate (11Mbit/s) performance, Prism-based systems are feature-rich and provide fast, reliable performance in all types of networking environments.

Advanced design and process technologies reduce power consumption, design complexity and total system cost.

"Intersil's Prism 2.5 chipset has enabled us to quickly develop a product that goes beyond basic wireless networking", said T Abumi, LCD Projection Systems Division General Manager, Sharp Corporation.

"The Prism WLAN solution offers us the Wi-Fi compatibility and functionally necessary to ensure that the product will have broad-base appeal".
