The ISL6269 is a single-phase PWM synchronous buck controller for mobile graphical processing units.

New from Intersil, the ISL6269 is a single-phase PWM synchronous buck controller for mobile graphical processing units (GPUs).

The ISL6269 requires fewer external components than competing products, resulting in a smaller implementation area and reduced manufacturing costs.

The ISL6269 includes onboard MOSFET drivers, an internal 5V LDO, integrated boot diode and a PWM audio frequency filter.

Through this integration, the device provides a flexible power solution that is easy to implement for GPUs in notebook PCs and other battery operated devices.

Providing superior dynamic response to input voltage and output load transients, the ISL6269 features Intersil's robust ripple regulator (R3) technology that combines the best features of fixed-frequency PWM and hysteretic PWM and eliminates many of the associated shortcomings.

With this technology, the ISL6269 is able to provide 1% regulation accuracy from -10 to +100C.

A resistor divider is used to program the output voltage setpoint.

The ISL6269 can be configured to operate in forced-continuous-conduction mode (FCCM) or in diode-emulation mode (DEM), that improves light load efficiency.

Intersil's ISL6269 offers additional features such as overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, overvoltage protection, thermal protection, programmable frequency and power good output that provide smooth, reliable operation under extreme conditions.

The ISL6269 has a 1.5ms digital soft start that can be started at a prebiased output voltage.

The PWM frequency is programmed using a single resistor and can be changed on the fly.

The overcurrent protection circuit measures positive flowing current through the output inductor.

A single resistor programs the overcurrent and short-circuit set points.

The ISL6269 offers customers a flexible GPU power solution for both embedded and detached graphics systems.

With a small package footprint, the device will enable users to place this controller anywhere on their board for better thermal management and efficiency.
