It also integrates control, output adjustment, monitoring and protection features into a single package.
The ISL6420A supports a wide range of applications (5 and 12V intermediate bus voltages) and several industrial, medical and consumer electronics applications with high input voltage.
The device provides programmable switching frequency from 100kHz to 1.4MHz.
The output voltage of the convertor can be precisely regulated as low as 0.6V, with a maximum tolerance of +/-1.0% over temperature and line voltage variations.
The PWM duty cycle ranges from 0 to 100% in transient conditions.
Intersil's ISL6420A has voltage mode control architecture with external compensation for added flexibility and fast transient response.
Pgood monitors the output voltage and an external capacitor allows the user to delay Pgood and eliminates the need for an extra supervisory IC on the board.
This device features an external reference voltage-tracking mode for externally referenced buck convertor application and DDR (double datarate) termination supplies, as well as a voltage-margining mode for system testing in networking DC/DC convertor applications.
The ISL6420A starts up in a prebiased load and includes protection features like overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage lockout and overtemperature shutdown.
The error amplifier features a 15MHz gain-bandwidth product and a 6V/us slew rate that enables high convertor bandwidth for fast transient response.
Other key features of the device include operability from 4.5 to 28V input, resistor-selectable switching frequency, and programmable soft-start.
Target applications for the device are point-of load (POL) applications, DC/DC conversion for 5 and 12V bus architectures, DSP and ASIC core power supplies, LCD TV designs, industrial and medical applications, portable instrumentation, routers, switchers, datacommunications and telecommunications applications.
The ISL6420A is available now in 20-lead QFN and QSOP packages.
