RGB multiplexers claim maximum bandwidth

The ISL5944xx family are billed as the first RGB multiplexers on the market with 1GHz bandwidth.

Intersil's ISL5944xx family extends the available bandwidth of RGB multiplexers on the market from 500MHz (Intersil's EL4342) up to 1GHz - the first time this barrier has been broken.

This family of ultra-high-speed devices allows customers to not worry about the resolution of their source as the devices can handle all existing sources.

When combined with Intersil's 1GHz triple amplifier (EL5367) and QXGA-capable video digitiser (ISL98001-275), it provides a unique solution that's unfettered by bandwidth constraints for high-resolution displays.

The ISL59445 and ISL59424, are quad RGB (red, green, blue) or YPbPr (the colour space used in video electronics) multiplexers with 1GHz of bandwidth.

The devices are accompanied by a complete family of nearly 1GHz multiplexers for RGB and high-speed analogue applications.

The ISL59445 and ISL59424 are designed primarily for video input switching.

These mux-amps exhibit a fixed gain of 1 and also feature high-speed tristate outputs to enable the output of multiple devices to be wired together.

All logic inputs have pull-downs to ground and may be left floating.

The enable (EN) pin, when pulled high, sets the ISL59424 and ISL59445 to low-current mode, consuming just 15mW.

An added feature in the ISL59424 is a latch enable (LE) function that allows independent logic control using a common logic bus.

When LE is high, the last logic state is preserved.

Other key features of the devices include a power-down mode (EN), +/-5V operation and a +/-1200V/us slew rate.

Target applications for the devices are HDTV/DTV analogue inputs, video projectors, computer monitors, set-top boxes, security video, and broadcast video equipment.

The ISL59424 is available now in a 24-lead QFN package, and the ISL59445 is available now in a 32-lead QFN package.
