Real time clocks add memory and supervision

An Intersil product story

A family of real time clocks integrates 4Kbit of EEPROM and CPU supervisory functions.

A family of real time clocks (RTCs) from Intersil integrates 4Kbit of EEPROM (2.0 million write cycles) and CPU supervisory functions.

The RTCs provide a complete set of leading features for consumer products and industrial applications, including crystal frequency trimming which is critical for clock accuracy and allows the use of low-cost crystal.

The devices provide the industry's highest reliability and performance in small outline packages appropriate for designs with board space limitations.

The ISL12026/27/28/29 family features low power dissipation (800nA battery supply current) in battery back-up mode, enabling the use of small batteries or supercaps for backup, critical in handheld applications.

The ISL12027, ISL12028 and ISL12029 also integrate CPU supervisory functions, providing board space savings by eliminating the need for discrete devices for power-on reset and watchdog timer.

The combination of low power, high integration and a very small footprint makes the RTCs ideal for consumer applications such as DVDR (DVD recordable) and HDTV devices, point-of-sale (POS) systems and other consumer electronics devices.

Industrial applications include utility power meters, heating, air conditioning, ventilation and other industrial equipment.

The devices can also be used in handheld applications such as PDAs, scanners, portable medical equipment and other handheld devices.

Other applications include HVAC, power metering, security, fire monitoring and other security-related systems.

The family of RTCs is available now.

The ISL12026 and ISL12027 are housed in 8-pin small outline (SO) and TSSOP packages.

The ISL12028 and ISL12029 are available in 14-pin SO and TSSOP packages.

Evaluation boards are available.
