Intersil's R3 controller uses post package trimming to remove all errors associated with assembly and offers 0.5% accuracy across the entire temperate range, which is the best in the industry.
The ISL6264 uses two interleaved channels to double the output voltage ripple frequency, reducing output voltage ripple amplitude with fewer components, lower component cost, reduced power dissipation and smaller real estate area.
The heart of the ISL6264 is the patented R3 technology, Intersil's Robust Ripple Regulator modulator.

Wireless LAN technology for the workplace
Intersil is introducing a new brand of wireless products called Prism/work specifically designed to meet the growing need for wireless LANs in the workplace.
Compared with traditional multiphase controllers, the device has the fastest transient response due to the R3 modulator commanding variable switching frequency during a load transient.
To boost battery life, Intersil's ISL6264 supports PSI_L by automatically enabling different operation modes.
At heavy load operation in the active mode, the controller commands the two-phase continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation.
While the PSI_L is asserted during the deeper sleep mode or the light load of active mode, the ISL6264 smoothly disables one phase and operates in a one-phase diode emulation mode (DE) to maximise the efficiency at light load.
A 6bit DAC allows dynamic adjustment of the core output voltage from 0.375 to 1.55V.
0.5% system accuracy of the core output voltage over temperature at active mode is achieved with the ISL6264.
A unity-gain differential amplifier is provided for remote CPU die sensing.
This allows the voltage on the CPU die to be accurately measured and regulated per AMD mobile CPU specifications.
Current sensing can be realised using either lossless inductor DCR sensing or precision resistor sensing.
A single NTC thermistor network thermally compensates the gain and the time constant of the DCR variations.
The many key features of the device include adjustable offset for voltage positioning, 6bit microprocessor voltage identification (VID) input, support for VID change on-the-fly, internal gate driver with 2A driving capability, differential remote CPU die voltage sensing, static and dynamic current sharing, audio filter enable or disable, over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current protection.
Intersil now offers a vast number of products that power the latest CPUs by both Intel and AMD.
Target applications for the ISL6264 include notebook computer systems, LCD-PC systems, SAN or NAS systems, point of sale terminals, and Blade servers.
The ISL6264 is available now in a 40-lead QFN package sised 6 x 6mm.
Evaluation boards are also available.
