An Intersil product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Aug 6, 2007

High-efficiency 2A integrated FET step-down DC/DC switching regulators support wide operating input voltages and can handle transient spikes up to 100V.

Intersil has introduced a family of high-efficiency 2A integrated FET step-down DC/DC switching regulators that support wide operating input voltages and can handle transient spikes up to 100V.

The ISL8560 supports an input voltage range of 9 to 60V with programmable output voltages from 1.21 to 55V, and the ISL8540 has an input voltage range of 9 to 40V with a programmable output voltage range of 1.21 to 35V.

This high flexibility makes them ideally suited for a variety of applications such as high voltage industrial, telecomms/datacomms and automotive power applications.

The devices also have the capability to manage transient spikes of up to 100V for 400ms, adding critical protection against spikes.

The ISL8540 and ISL8560 provide industry-leading features including separate enable and power good for output sequencing, adjustable switching frequency and external frequency synchronisation from 100 to 600kHz.

Both devices contain protection features such as overtemperature, undervoltage, pulse-by-pulse hiccup mode overcurrent and short circuit protections.

These features add flexibility, increase efficiency, reduce EMI and improve system reliability against adverse fault conditions.

The ISL8540 and ISL8560 include an integrated boot diode and high-side integrated power DMOS low-resistance transistor capable of supporting up to 2A continuous load current to improve efficiency and accelerate switching speeds.

The internal reference of 1.21V is accurate to +/-1% over industrial temperature range (-40 to +85C).

These features, along with input voltages to support 12, 24, 36 and 48V applications, make these devices the industry's most flexible and easy-to-use, plug-and-play power solutions for most point-of-load applications.

The ISL8540 is available in a 20-lead HTSSOP package while the ISL8560 comes in a 20-lead 6 x 6mm Pb-free QFN package.

Both devices meet Pb-free plus anneal standards and are RoHS compliant.
