High-input-voltage battery-charger IC can safely handle input voltages up to 28V.

New from Intersil, the ISL9301 is a high-input-voltage battery-charger IC that can safely handle input voltages up to 28V.

Superior overvoltage protection is achieved through the ISL9301's high input voltage and integrated overvoltage protection circuit that enables an automatic shutdown feature when input voltages exceed 10.5V during normal operation.

The ISL9301 also features dynamic power path management to optimise charge and system currents.

With multiple power paths one for charging and another for device operation the ISL9301 enables simultaneous charging and powering of any handheld device operating from a single cell Li-ion battery.

This feature allows immediate operation of cellphones, PDAs and MP3 players even when the battery is fully discharged.

The power path feature in the ISL9301 also allows the charge to terminate when the battery is full while continuing to supply the system with the requested power.

This minimises unnecessary charge and discharge cycles and improves battery life.

The ISL9301 also extends a battery disconnect function that prevents any leakage or battery drain when the handheld device is not in use.

This feature greatly helps to maximise battery life.

The ISL9301 is available now in a 10-lead DFN package.
