Lightspan LS-3238 optical gel is a soft encapsulation material designed to protect sensitive photonics and fibre-optic modules from mechanical or thermal shock, dust and moisture.

Lightspan LS-3238 optical gel is a soft encapsulation material designed especially to protect sensitive photonics and fibre-optic modules from mechanical or thermal shock, dust and moisture The product has a refractive index of 1.38 for aiding total internal reflection in silica fibre, and optical glass and plastic substrates

LS-3238 is optically clear, permitting post-cure inspection of delicate assemblies.

Its ultralow gel modulus allows large strain without allowing excessive stress buildup in sensitive fibre or wire bond runs.

Delivered in convenient self-mixing/dispensing cartridges, LS-3238 features a long pot life (8h) for optimum convenience in an assembly environment.

It cures in 24h at room temperature without the need for UV exposure or high temperature bake.

Service temperatures are -40 to +200C (+260C for 1 to 2min for soldering operations).

50cm3 cartridges are available from stock for prototyping and testing.

A four-page technical datasheet describes material properties including optical transmission and refractive index versus wavelength, and tips on substrate preparation and cure schedules.
