Innoveda has released TransBridge, a wiring topology interface between the company's TransDesign tool suite for electrical system design and SDRC's I-DEAS mechanical design automation software.

Innoveda has released TransBridge, a wiring topology interface between the company's TransDesign tool suite for electrical system design and SDRC's I-DEAS mechanical design automation software With TransBridge, users can concurrently design electrical distribution systems in the TransDesign electrical design domain and in the I-DEAS mechanical domain

This interface provides a time- and cost-effective means of generating a complete electrical design, and eliminates the need for manual verification previously required in the engineering process.

By synchronizing a TransDesign electrical design with 3D packaging and cable routing information in I-DEAS, TransBridge provides users with simultaneous 3D packaging verification and full electrical connectivity verification in the TransDesign environment.

"TransDesign and I-DEAS have a natural synergy", said Enrique Ortega, vice president of electromechanical design for Innoveda.

"The solid modelling component further enhances the fully integrated TransDesign solution for electrical system design from the initial concept phase through completion of the project.

The benefit for customers is magnified because geographically dispersed engineers can share graphical design data through common web browsers".

Innoveda and SDRC worked closely with leading automotive engineers to develop TransBridge.

With this interface, mechanical changes made in I-DEAS are used to update wiring harness designs.

True wiring bundle lengths and wire harness routing and retention components are defined in I-DEAS, then back-annotated to the TransDesign wiring harness bill of materials.

Any mechanical part added to a wiring harness in I-DEAS can be automatically appended to the TransDesign bill of materials.

The interface with I-DEAS expands the capabilities of tools in the TransDesign suite, including TransLayout, a tool for autorouting and wire synthesis of a complete electrical system; TransHarness, a tool for defining manufacturable harnesses; TranSACT, a tool for the automated creation of physical schematics; and TransCable, a tool for design capture.

Concurrent design of electrical distribution systems within the electrical design and solid modelling domains is valuable in complex projects such as designing electrical systems for automobiles, that might contain as many as 30 wiring harnesses.

Combining the advantages of I-DEAS and the tools in the TransDesign suite results in electrical systems that are correct by construction.
