Contact bands aid high current applications

An Icore International product story

Icore's new contact band technology for high current applications will be the main feature on Stand 160 in Hall B4 at Electronica 2004.

At the other end of the spectrum there is a new PCB connector designed for 30 and 60A applications.

Interconnect products are also prominent with the latest lightweight "System Sixty" conduit system, and an array of specialist PTFE hoses that cater for general purpose industrial use and electronic cooling applications.

Icore is also extending its fluid transfer product expertise, with a new range of rigid PTFE hoses, individually premoulded for specific applications.

Icore contact bands are a series of mechanically rugged, sprung current-transfer bridges, which are supplied on rolls or as precut and preformed lengths.

Offering excellent electrical performance, their design maximises current carrying capacity whilst minimising insertion and withdrawal forces - a particular advantage for multipole connectors.

The contact band also has a high short-circuit withstand capability, and requires minimum mounting space.

The new PCB connector is used with a 3mm copper busbar and 1.5mm PCBs: it can easily be modified for alternative applications.

Its deceptively simple design achieves good performance without the cost of complex components.

It has a silver plated surface, providing both anti corrosion properties and a malleable contact point to optimise the contact integrity.

A securely located, bespoke spring design provides reliable contact force, and an M5 bolt maximises the contact area between the bolt and the busbar - allowing high contact forces to be created without risk to the nut or the bolt.

"System Sixty" is Icore's new lightweight cable management system using composite materials, combined with self-assembly.

Originally developed to manage and protect aerospace wiring systems, it has many potential applications in the electronics and other industries where EMC screening levels are important.

Other conduit solutions centre on the new heavy duty Kafon 1000, which is preferred when maximum protection is required in the toughest operating conditions.

Icore's fluid transfer range of PTFE flexible pressure hoses are designed to function with aggressive and corrosive fluids in safety critical situations.

They are particularly suitable for electrical cooling applications thanks to their long service life and ease-of-installation characteristics: achieving tight radii with minimum bending force to fit into tight spaces.

Nonmetallic braid is an option, when non-conductive hose is required, and anti static liners are available for specific coolant applications.
