More choice for board-to-board interconnection
Taiwan-based board-to-board specialist GradCon has chosen Imperial Connector Systems to distribute its full range of board-to-board interconnect products in the UK and Ireland.
This surface-mount product has been designed for reliable operation and to withstand the adverse effects of the IR reflow soldering process which has been know to cause problems with other manufacturer's push-push products.
Suitable for up to 5000 mating cycles, the SIMS60 has a maximum insertion force of 20N and a retention force of 1.5N minimum.
The mechanism provides a good, positive tactile feel when the SIM card is correctly inserted.
Incorrect insertion of the card is apparent, since the card springs back.
The card-present-detect switch changes from closed to open upon correct card insertion.
Upgrading from the 6-pin version will be easy, as the 8-pin contact version is form, fit and function compatible with just the addition of two extra contacts.
A metal shell to the top and sides provides RFI shielding, with two small lugs at the side for connection to the PCB.
The underside of the connector has 2 small posts to help remove stress from the PCB solder joints and to facilitate locating the connector on the PCB.
Although the SIM format was originally designed for mobile-telephony applications, the SIM card has found favour in other applications where data logging or parameter storage is required.
Unlike memory cards which can be easily read and changed by users, the SIM card format offers a degree of security against unwanted access or tampering.
The SIMS60 is lead (Pb) Free and is fully RoHS compliant for use in the European market.
