Extended resistance range and voltage rating for high power-dissipation surface-mount chip resistors.

TT electronics IRC Advanced Film Division has extended the resistance range and voltage rating of its high power-dissipation surface-mount chip resistors This will provide power-electronics engineers with more options in resistive devices that meet new power supply and voltage requirements

The SC-3 series resistors now have resistance values up to 100KOhm and voltage ratings to 100V.

According to Gary Bleasdell, thick-film business-unit director for IRC's Advanced Film Division, there has been an increasing demand from customers for the higher specifications.

"Previously, the resistance range only went to 200Ohm and the voltage rating to 50V, limiting customers in the use of this device", says Bleasdell.

"The extended ranges allow customers to replace more expensive and bulky moulded wire-wound devices in motor and laser drive circuits, inverters, medical electronics and automotive applications".

Additional applications for the SC-3 Series resistor include power supply bleeders, series voltage drop resistors, pulse applications and voltage dividers.

The SC-3 Series chip resistors feature resistance ranges from 1Ohm to 100KOhm, with a maximum voltage rating of 100V and absolute tolerance to +/-1%.

The resistor dissipates up to 3W @ 70C, and features a TCR of +/-100ppm/C.

The operating temperature range is from -55 to +150C.

The chip resistors feature leach-resistant 60/40 tin/lead or 100% matte tin over nickel plated wrap-around terminations.

IRC will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Pricing for the SC-3 Series chip resistors is $0.25 each in quantities of 1,000.

Lead time is from stock to 10 weeks.
