Designed to be compatible with surface-mount processes, ITT Industries, Cannon reckons its KMS microminiature side-actuated tactile switch is the next step in small side-actuated switches.

Designed to be compatible with surface-mount processes, the KMS microminiature side-actuated tactile switch from ITT Industries, Cannon represents the next step in small side-actuated switch components, measuring a mere 4.6 x 3.5 x 1.42mm.

Available in a single-pole, single-throw configuration with normally open contact, the switch features a sharp tactile feedback.

Typical applications encompass mobile phones, pagers, PDAs, laptops, DVD players, CD-ROM drives, keyless entry systems and automotive electronics, through to health care electronics.

The switch offers designers a large hard plastic actuator, robust construction, four solder terminals and a ground terminal on the switch cage.

To maximise safety in vacuum pick and place operations, KMS Series switches have a large flat top with no holes or bumps.

Technical specifications include a maximum contact voltage of 50V DC, minimum/maximum current ratings of 1 and 50mA, and bounce of less than 3ms.

Life expectancy is 100k operations and contact resistance is less than 100mohm.

Operating temperature is -40 to +85C for switches with silver contacts and -40 to +125C for gold contacts.

Designed for surface mounting, the switches are packaged on continuous tape in reels holding 3000 parts, compatible with all major pick-and-place machines.

Sealed against dust and flux ingress, the switches are suitable for infrared soldering processes and can also be used in lead-free soldering processes.
