The CCM01 Mark III eight-contact smart card connector from ITT Industries, Cannon features a self cleaning, normally closed end travel card detection blade switch.

The CCM01 Mark III eight-contact smart card connector from ITT Industries, Cannon features a self cleaning, normally closed end travel card detection blade switch.

Target applications include set-top boxes, pay TV terminals, home shopping and web meters.

Fully compliant with all specifications for payment, transaction and encryption systems, including EMV2000 and NDS, the connectors are available in standard and reverse versions with an open housing cavity for dust elimination.

The simple design of the reverse version allows a direct mounting to the PCB without additional mechanics to insert the card with the chip facing up.

The reverse version delivers improved ESD protection due to the fact that the card enters from the front and the terminations are at the rear - in other words the distance between the terminations and the user is maximized, harmlessly dissipating any electrostatic discharge before it can reach the terminations and destroy sensitive electronics.

Copper alloy contacts are finished with gold over nickel.

A full range of standard, reverse and dual stack configurations are available with standoffs from 0.8 to 6.00mm - enabling other components to be mounted under the connector, and fitting whatever front panel design.

Positioning is easily carried out via half pegs, and insulator guides for termination and hard retention is carried out with four snap-in board locks.

Pertinent specifications are 30,000 minimum mechanical life, 10N maximum card insertion force, contact force of 0.25 to 0.65N, maximum contact resistance of 100mohm and current from 10mA to 1A.

Made from UL94V0-rated thermoplastic material, the connectors withstand the rigours of wave soldering up to 260C for 5s.

Operating temperature ranges from -20 to +70C.

Exhibiting high shock and vibration resistance, CCM01 Mark III connectors focus on the home entertainment market.
