Integrated Electronic Solutions is expanding its range of temperature control integrated circuits for thermostat applications with the introduction of IES5521A.
In nonprotected relays, problems resulting from mains arcing contribute significantly to contact degradation that leads to limited contact life.
The IES5541A circuit minimises these problems by bypassing the relay contacts with a controlled triac to only suppress transients caused during relay switching operation.
This effectively ensures contacts are not exposed to excessive arcing present during switching and contact bounce.
IES5541A provides triac gate pulse at mains zero crossing during relay operation and detect transients to provide contact protection.
Consequently, the relay is switched at mains zero crossing, reducing EMI at the source to an absolute minimum.
The IES5541A accepts logic and sensor input triggers giving it the flexibility to be driven by logic gates, microcontrollers or resistive sensors such as an NTC thermistor.
Alternatively, the IES5541A can be interfaced to two wire serial bus for remote mains switching applications.
A further advantage of the IES5541A is the protection allows the relay to switch at a higher rate than normally specified enabling tighter temperature control with low hysteresis in heating or cooling applications without compromising relay reliability and lifetime.
The IES5541A and its recommended circuitry are compatible with most power electromechanical relays.
It is ideally suited for AC mains driven temperature control applications where wide load types (resistive or inductive) are frequently switched and excessive EMI needs to be avoided.
The IES5541A offers features that are suitable for mains relay switching in a variety of home or kitchen appliances.
The IES5541A is available in RoHS compliant DIP8 and SO8 packages.
Engineering samples and production quantities are available now.
