Students across Britain will be given a behind the scenes look at the technology involved in the music industry, at this year's IEE's annual Faraday Lecture.

Presented by young engineers, the lecture is an interactive presentation for students aged 14-16.

Lectures run from January to March at venues across Britain including Crawley, Harrogate, Manchester, Bristol, London, Cardiff, Glasgow, Birmingham and York.

A complete tour schedule can be found at www.faraday.org.uk.

Music unites people around the world, with technology at the centre of this universal language.

SoundFX is the IEE's 2004 Faraday lecture, demonstrating the link between music and technology.

Music is a potent power with a multitude of purposes and the presentation aims to show students just how exciting music technology can be.

Combining multimedia and live demonstrations, Sound FX will excite and inspire students, making their subsequent science and music lessons more enjoyable - and making teaching more rewarding.

The lecture explores the use of technology in music making, both live and when recording.

It provides a fly-on-the-wall look at what happens in the recording studio when singers and instrumentalists are recorded, paying particular attention to techniques that are employed to make modern recordings sound extra effective.

The importance of making music live will not be lost though, as the lecture ends with an extravagant musical grand finale.
