Breakfast briefings focus on impact of technology
The IT Breakfast Series of bimonthly events will feature celebrated speakers from diverse sectors discussing the impact and role that technology has had in shaping their industries.
The IEE has launched its 2005 IT Breakfast Series of bimonthly events featuring celebrated speakers from diverse sectors, including defence, sport, government and business, discussing the impact and role that technology has had in shaping their industry's past, present and future.
The series, which has already attracted the interest of leading industrialists as well as public figures, will commence on 30th March, with Air Chief Marshal Sir Brian Burridge and Sir John Chisholm as the IEE's special guests.
The first event will include an exclusive top-level briefing on the way in which technology is shaping both the defence industry and international policy.
Guest speaker, and defence authority, Burridge commented: "Defence is such a deeply interesting and highly topical subject and the role of the IT profession in national interest is critical".
"No doubt the IEE will generate a lively and inspiring debate and I look forward to being part of it".
Held at the IEE's Savoy Place offices in London, the exclusive Breakfast Series aims to attract the cream of the UK's business leaders and IT professionals.
Dr Alf Roberts, the IEE's Chief Executive, will be hosting the 2005 events.
The Breakfast Series is a part of the IEE's continued efforts to meet the changing needs of its growing membership base, which ranges from students at the start of their careers to leading figures in industry, research and development, consultancy and education.
The IT industry, like many others, is increasingly one in which the notion of a "job for life" is no longer an option.
However, IT professionals have a wide range of choice in their career paths and most will work in several different positions throughout their careers.
The IEE gives its members the professional continuity they might otherwise miss, providing them with the professional home for life that their workplace no longer affords.
Via this life long association members can access professional development and share knowledge.
Dr Roberts commented: "The IEE is a major stakeholder in the IT industry, with more than 30% of its 130,000 members employed in the IT sector worldwide, designing, implementing and managing computer systems in sectors such as aerospace, communications, energy, manufacturing, transport, the built environment, healthcare, finance and safety-critical systems".
"We have a significant role to play in supporting the professional development of industry professionals throughout their careers".
The IT Breakfast Series, which includes six events throughout 2005, provides an elite professional network where key communities of influence will share ideas on the impacts of, and challenges to, the IT profession.
