De Man to kick off semiconductor forum

The FSA and the IEE have revealed the keynote speakers for the 2005 FSA Suppliers Expo Europe and IEE/FSA International Semiconductor Executive Forum.

The FSA and the IEE have revealed the keynote speakers for the 2005 FSA Suppliers Expo Europe and IEE/FSA International Semiconductor Executive Forum.

The event takes place on 11th and 12th May 2005 at the Mermaid Conference and Events Centre in London.

The forum will explore challenges and opportunities with business in Asia, the automotive industry, end market strategies and global competitiveness.

To kick-off the event, Hugo De Man, Senior Fellow at IMEC, will examine bridging the gap between gigascale systems and nanoscale devices in his keynote address.

"With the move in the nano era, the grand challenge in developing systems for the ambient intelligent environment will be to design flexible multiprocessor platforms with two-orders-of-magnitude lower power dissipation than today's microprocessors at a 20th of the cost, while coping with the realities of nanoscale physics", said De Man.

The event also will feature the following three esteemed keynotes: Tom Hart, Chairman, President and CEO of QuickLogic, will examine the wireless market; Waguih Ishak, Director of the Photonics and Electronics Research Laboratory at Agilent, will discuss applications of electronics, photonics and MEMS in consumer electronics; and Rene Penning de Vries, Senior Vice President and CTO of Philips Semiconductors, will focus on technology applications from micro to nano - system-on-chip and beyond.

The second annual forum brings together executives from the entire semiconductor industry, including fabless, foundry, test and packaging companies; EDA tool vendors; integrated device manufacturers (IDMs); investment bankers and venture capitalists.

Additionally, on 12th May the FSA will host its first FSA Suppliers Expo Europe, providing an opportunity for all European semiconductor professionals to attend a complimentary exhibition featuring industry suppliers from across the globe to explore their latest, most innovative products and services.
