The IEE has announced the finalists for the IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards 2005.

The IEE has announced the finalists for the IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards 2005.

The winners will be named at a ceremony at the IEE, Savoy Place, London on 14th September 2005.

In its inaugural year, the IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards recognises excellence in engineering innovation across a range of industry sectors and engineering disciplines including IT, telecommunications, electronics, robotics, power and manufacturing.

The awards represent a unique opportunity for industry innovators to be recognised and rewarded by a panel of esteemed industry leaders including Internet pioneer Sir Tim Berners-Lee, Sir John Chisholm, QinetiQ Chief Executive, Alice Rawsthorn, Director of the Design Museum, Dr Raj Rajagopal, Chief Executive of BOC Edwards, and Sir Robin Saxby, ARM Executive Chairman.

The finalists have demonstrated excellence in the plan or design for a new, altered or improved product, process or service for commercial use.

Judges looked for outstanding entries that: demonstrated genuine technological novelty; represented a significant technological advance with significant technical risks associated with the technology challenge; and demonstrated that the work represents a significant technological advance for the industry or sector.

The full list of finalists can be viewed on the IEE website.

The IEE Innovation in Engineering Awards coincides with the IEE International Conference on Commercialising Technology and Innovation, which brings together some of the world's most influential industry leaders, technology experts and entrepreneurs to explore how emerging and evolving technologies will drive business growth over the next decade.
