Sir David Brown, Chairman of Motorola, is the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Mountbatten Medal.

Sir David was chosen by HRH The Duke of Kent as the recipient of the award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the leadership of the electronics industry.

In addition to making substantial contributions within the companies for which he has worked, Sir David has also played leading roles in the sector as a whole, exemplified by his being a former President of the Federation of Electronics Industry, former President of the IEE, Chairman at the foundation stage of the University for Industry and as a Vice Chairman of UK Trade and Investment.

The Mountbatten Medal, which has been awarded annually since 1978, was presented to Sir David by IEE honorary Fellow, HRH the Duke of Kent.

The award is made by the IEE for outstanding individual contribution to the promotion of electronics or information technology and their application, and is supported by the British Computer Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Sir David said of his achievement: "When I made my career choice 40 years ago, it seemed to me that electronics was the fastest moving of all the technologies".

"Now, as I begin the second half of my career, it seems to me that this still holds true It was a fortunate career choice, which has enabled me to work with so many great people, in industry and in the engineering profession".

"As proud as I am to receive the Mountbatten Medal, I believe the honour is theirs as much as it is mine".
