The Institution of Engineering and Technology is searching for some of the world's most outstanding engineers.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology, Europe's largest engineering society is currently searching for some of the world's most outstanding engineers The deadline for the Institution's sixth annual Achievement Awards are fast approaching with a closing date of 30th April 2006

Up to six medals will be awarded to honour engineers who have made an outstanding contribution in a variety of sectors including communications engineering, computing and control, information technology, electron systems and software, power and transport.

Judges will take into account any successful research, design concept or manufacturing innovation introduced by the candidate and evidence of technical achievements such as patents, books and publications will also be considered.

In addition to the Achievement Awards, a further three medals will be bestowed on engineers who have made contributions specifically within the field of manufacturing.

These awards include the Institutions' Sir Eric Mensforth International Gold Medal, the Viscount Nuffield Silver Medal and the Tony Goldsmith Cup for an institution member under 35 years old.

Previous award winners include Dr Raj Rajagopal, Chief Executive of BOC Edwards, who has been recognised for his outstanding contributions to manufacturing technology and Professor Kevin Warwick who is an expert in artificial intelligence control and biomedical engineering.

Dr Alf Roberts, Chief Executive of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, said: "These awards reflect the Institution's ongoing commitment to recognising and rewarding excellence in engineering".
