The IXI848 high side current monitor is the first in a new family of signal interface products from Ixys Corp.

The high side current monitor is an integrated circuit incorporating a precision amplifier with adjustable gain and level shift features.

The IXI848 provides the system designer the ability to measure current signals in a high side current path, enabling signal measurement outside of the ground signal path in power electronic circuits.

The IXI848 is a versatile precision amplifier, allowing current sensor signal amplification and level translation to a ground reference level with a selectable gain of 10x or 50x.

By selection of the current sense element and the signal gain, a large range of current signals can be measured with an accuracy of 0.7% typical for a full scale signal.

The input voltage covers a wide range of 2.7 to 40.0V.

The IXI848 is offered in a small 8-lead SOIC surface mount package, with rated operation from -40 to +85C.

This package is offered in tubes quantities of 98 or tape and reel quantities of 2500.

Samples of the IXI848 will be available as of November 2004.

This new family of interface ICs from Ixys demonstrates its continued growth of products to support the varied and unique requirements of its customers in power management.

A wide range of applications find use for the IXI848, including power supplies, smart battery systems, battery chargers, battery powered portable equipment and motor drive and control applications.

The IXI848 continues the co-operation between Ixys businesses, with the IXI848 developed through Ixys subsidiary, Micronix, drawing on the technology, manufacturing and applications expertise between its Santa Clara and Micronix operations.

Future products for signal interface will be offered to expand the company's ability to meet the needs of system designers for requirements in power management and industrial control applications.
