Optical system speeds network deployment
Global Crossing has selected the Infinera DTN - a unique, scalable optical system - to enhance the speed and flexibility of provisioning its digital optical network.
Tributary adapter module boosts GbE density
Infinera has broadened its service offerings with a new tributary adapter module (TAM) for the Infinera DTN platform and new software features to give added flexibility to an existing TAM.
"We were very pleased to see increasing uptake of the Digital Optical Networks architecture by our customers in the second quarter, as service providers are increasingly recognising the technical and economic benefits that photonic integration can bring", he said.
As a new, private company, Infinera's shipments are not broken out as a separate line item in Dell'Oro's published tables, but are included in Dell'Oro's totals.
According to Dell'Oro data, the top three vendors in 10Gbit/s long-haul shipments in the second quarter were Infinera with a 29.4% market share, Nortel with 16.4% share and Siemens with 11.5% share.
According to Dell'Oro Group data, Infinera has now led in 10Gbit/s long-haul DWDM shipments for the last four quarters.
In the second quarter, the long-haul DWDM market showed significant revenue growth and outpaced total optical transport market growth for the fourth successive quarter, according to the Dell'Oro data.
Dell'Oro reported that the long-haul DWDM market rose to $455 million in the second quarter, representing 41% year-over-year growth, while the total optical market rose by 9% to $2.28 billion in the quarter.
Dell'Oro also reported that the total number of 10Gbit/s long-haul wavelengths shipped in the quarter rose 89% over the prior year's second quarter, to reach the highest quarterly level in five years.
"When a service provider is facing rapid or unpredictable network growth, the flexibility of the Infinera platform makes it an ideal choice to enable rapid and cost-effective response to new network needs", said Singh.
With 100Gbit/s of capacity on each line card and total capacity of 800Gbit/s, the Infinera DTN is designed to meet the needs of high-bandwidth networks and fast-growing networks.
The Infinera DTN is architected to combine high-capacity transport, fully reconfigurable switching, and GMPLS service intelligence in one platform.
