"The aerospace industry has very stringent quality requirements".
"The AS9100 certification ensures that the Jabil Livingston facility meets the standards for quality, safety, and reliability", said John Lovato, President of Jabil Europe.
"Earning this certification positions our Livingston plant as a key supplier to the United Kingdom aerospace markets".
"Competitive pressures are driving defence and aerospace companies to review how their resources are deployed", said Jabil's Aerospace and Defence Sector Group Head Jim Cocke.
According to Cocke many aerospace companies are turning to global electronics manufacturers like Jabil to manage noncore aspects of their operations, such as design, manufacturing, supply-chain management and reverse logistics.
The AS9100 standard - as its European equivalent EN9100 - was developed to help aerospace companies ensure their suppliers meet stringent standards for product design, development, production, installation and servicing.
It is based on ISO9001:2000 but includes approximately 80 additional requirements and 18 amplifications of the aerospace industry in terms of quality, safety, and reliability.
EN9100AS/EN9100 addresses both civil and military aviation and aerospace needs.
"With product lifecycles of 20 years and more, aerospace contractors' outsourcing needs focus not only on design and manufacturing", said Cocke.
"In this industry, they are also concerned with product lifecycle support and obsolescence management".
"Jabil has all the capabilities in place to support those needs".
Livingston is Jabil's sixth 9100 certified plant.
The company's Billerica, Massachusetts; St Petersburg, Florida; Tempe, Arizona; and Singapore City, Singapore plants are AS9100 certified.
Jabil's Brest, France site is EN9100 certified.
Billerica and Singapore also have the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) repair station status, which certifies them to provide repair and support services on products used in commercial aircraft.
