JAE Europe has saved 10% of the PCB mounting space for an SD card connector with its new SG5 model, giving designers extra flexibility to optimise board layout The new connector is a space-efficient push-push type that retains high user-friendliness and reliability, and supports full SD card functionality

The SG5 series will enable higher feature density in new mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras, personal computing products and a wide range of media players.

Established SD connector features continue to be supported, including card insertion detection, lock/unlock detection structure for write protect, and the correct terminal contact sequence to enable hot plugging.

For the end user, the audible click on insertion and removal, and friction locking to hold inserted SD cards, are also retained.

The SG5 series is also easy to assemble, with design features for automatic placement including a positioning boss for accuracy and repeatability.

Construction uses lightweight, reliable LCP, with plated copper contacts and stainless steel card lock, cover and cam follower for robustness and reliability throughout its 10,000 operations insertion lifetime.

The SG5 provides 13 contacts supporting all SD and multimedia card features, each rated at 0.5A/3.3V, with maximum contact resistance of 100 mO.

Insulation resistance for the SG5 is higher than 1000MO, and withstand voltage higher than 500VAC RMS for 60 seconds.
