Low-profile connectors take flex circuits onboard

The FA5 series connector family from JAE Europe enables very low profile PCB to FPC interconnects within miniaturised, portable consumer and professional products.

It achieves a mounting height of 1.45mm within a compact 5.5mm mounting depth.

FA5 provides a low profile cable-to-board interconnect solution for home cinema, flat panel TVs, portable test equipment, medical instruments, control and instrumentation panels, and many other lightweight, compact products featuring slim LCDs.

Zero insertion force design for easy mating is accompanied by a hold down structure for security and a strain protection mechanism to maximise reliability.

The rotating actuator also enhances handling and use.

The FA5 series is a 0.5mm pitch system, compatible with 0.3 +/-0.05mm thickness FPC with reinforcement.

Two basic variants are available, serving top mount applications in a range of sizes from 8 to 50 contacts, as well as bottom-mount applications from 6 to 50 contacts.

Rated current is 0.8A per contact, with maximum contact resistance 40mohm.

The extended operating temperature range, from -40 to +85 C allows designers to use the FA5 series to miniaturise industrial products, field-based equipment and other devices that are subjected to harsh environmental conditions.

The glass filled LCP insulator also meets UL94V0.
