Automotive connector handle higher
currents
Low-profile connectors are aimed at automotive cabin applications where any space saved maximises the room available for the car occupants.
JAE Europe has enhanced its MX34 series automotive connector family to handle higher currents and to ease assembly It has also embarked on testing for qualification to the USCAR standard

The new MJ04 series 2mm metric connector system from JAE complies with the IEC 1076-4-101 electrical and mechanical specification for CompactPCI interconnection.
Low-profile FPC connectors offer greater density
The FB1 series from JAE is a 0.3mm pitch low profile connector for FPC (flexible printed circuits) designed for use in applications where size and weight are a premium.
The MX34 current rating has been increased more than 200% to 10A per way dependent on derating curve, and the maximum operating temperature range has also been raised to +105C.
The connector headers are now plated on all four sides, which simplifies the wave soldering process.
Other connectors typically have their pins stamped, leaving two sides open as bare metal.
The trend to increase functionality while minimising the size of electronic control units (ECUs) has resulted in connectors becoming the limiting factor in the reduction of ECU package size.
Consequently, there is now a lot of interest from automotive manufacturers in small-format connectors, such as MX34, that are able to withstand high currents.
The JAE MX34 series low-profile connectors are aimed at cabin applications where any space saved maximises the room available for the car occupants.
Typical uses are for rear-seat mounted entertainment systems, and roof-mounted sensors for alarms and rain-sensitive windscreen wipers.
High density PCB-to-cable interconnects are achieved using a 2.2mm contact pitch and a double row of contacts, together with JAE's in-house thin-wall moulding technology.
The MX34 series connectors are available with between 3 and 40 contacts.
The choice of a straight or right-angle pin header allows use in a wide range of applications and locations.
The robust miniature box-section pin headers, together with double leaf spring contacts that are highly resistant to twisting, and a preset-type secondary locking mechanism enable rapid, failsafe assembly.
A lock spring is also provided, featuring a bridge to protect the contacts from external load.
MX34 series connectors operate from -40 to +105C, provide insulation resistance greater than 100Mohm and dielectric withstand voltage 1000V AC for 1min.
Maximum contact resistance is 5mohm, and durability is 50 insertions.
