JDSU enhances fibre-coupled diode laser solution

A JDSU product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Sep 4, 2008

JDSU has announced that it has released an enhanced version of its fibre-coupled diode laser solution, called the 6398-L4i series.

The diode laser is the first of its kind to provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with a simple and cost-effective way to protect diodes from destructive power feedback during fibre laser operation.

The L4i series replaces costly and complex isolation systems currently used today to protect the diode lasers.

Diode lasers are designed for use in a broad range of industrial, medical and dental applications, including fibre laser pumping, material processing, and dental soft tissue surgery.

The L4i series is an extension of the JDSU L4 platform, a telecom-grade solution that leverages a chip design to generate 10W of output power.

Key features of the platform include: expanded fibre-delivery options; highest power available in the industry at 10W with a package that has the potential for future scalability; 100 micron fibre delivery either at 0.22NA or 0.15NA; smaller, more efficient package; takes up less space compared to previous designs and allows more units to be packed within a smaller area; new electrical format; simplified electrical design removes need for additional parts, making the diode laser easier to integrate into OEM systems; improved wavelength flexibility; available in a variety of wavelengths in the 910 to 980nm range.
