TestWorks adopts boundary scan tool

A JTAG Technologies product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team May 10, 2006

TestWorks is the first company to sign up for JTAG's recently released ProVision tool.

Boundary-scan innovator JTAG Technologies has concluded an agreement with test solutions company TestWorks to supply and support its recently announced ProVision tool.

This win represents one of the fastest adoptions of any boundary-scan product for JTAG Technologies (UK), coming as it did mere weeks after its formal launch.

Moreover, TestWorks' planned use of the tool is simple: to secure the growth and increase profitability of the company.

JTAG ProVision is an easy-to-use, database-driven tool for the swift generation of high quality test and device programming applications for use with the company's extensive range of IEEE1149 controllers.

The tool is devised for first-time users of boundary-scan, infrequent users and experts alike - thanks to features such as integrated board-to-board testing and cluster device modelling.

Andy Chick, MD of TestWorks, comments: "We're positioning ourselves to be the number one UK-based provider of test solutions and products, and as such we must have the best tools at our disposal".

"JTAG ProVision is in our opinion the easiest-to-use, most comprehensive developer's tool on the market".

"Moreover, it is backed by the technical support and expertise of the longest established boundary-scan company in the industry".

TestWorks considered several boundary-scan solutions but felt that only JTAG Technologies' ProVision software, alongside JTAG's extensive hardware products and levels of technical support, could cope with today's and tomorrow's test challenges.

"We're a professional company planning for a successful future", adds Chick, "and we see our licensing of ProVision as an investment in that future".

Chick goes on to say that one large customer has recently charged TestWorks with devising a complete test strategy: one which includes boundary-scan, optical inspection and auxiliary ATE.

Also, TestWorks is seeing increasing demand for the use of boundary-scan as a stand-alone test method.

"This is the way the market's going", notes Chick.

"Customers are not only demanding boundary-scan, as part of a strategy or as a stand-alone solution, but they're demanding speed, quality and (low) price".

"Speed in terms of rapid service, quality in terms of reliability and robustness, and price in terms of delivering a cost-effective solution".

"Whilst there are many boundary-scan tools on the market, few empower the user to give their customers the aforementioned speed, quality and price".

James Stanbridge, UK Sales Manager of JTAG Technologies, says: "We've worked hard in providing powerful, comprehensive boundary-scan solutions to our customers in the UK and Ireland for more than 10 years".

"With the introduction of ProVision with its unprecedented ease of use, we expect to build on this work and bring boundary-scan test and programming facilities to a much wider audience".

Chick concludes: "We are already working closely with a number of customers who require us to build boundary-scan into their products/applications".

"JTAG ProVision will enable us to meet these requirements in a quick and effective manner".
