BroadMotion's JPEG2000 codecs are now available throughout the UK and Europe from Kane Computing.

BroadMotion and Kane Computing have announced a commercial partnership, which will facilitate the availability of BroadMotion's JPEG2000 codecs throughout the UK and Europe.

"We are very pleased to be working with BroadMotion to make their JPEG2000 technology available to the European market", said Richard White, Managing Director of Kane Computing.

"We already have extensive experience selling other video compression solutions such as MPEG2, MPEG4 and H.264".

"The availability of BroadMotion's JPEG2000 solutions for DSPs and DSP/FPGA platforms will be a very welcome alternative in many of our engagements".

"We continue to see a demand for JPEG2000 from our customers throughout the world", said Richard Faust, Worldwide DSP Partners and ASP Network Manager, Texas Instruments (TI).

"This partnership demonstrates how the TI DSP Third Party Network is creating worldwide accessibility to innovative solutions built around the TI DSP architecture".

"Kane Computing is a well-regarded organisation with knowledge in video compression and experience with the TI hardware platforms", said Chris Komnick, Vice President of Business Development for BroadMotion.

"The demand for JPEG2000 in the European market is strong and we needed an organisation that could effectively educate prospective customers on the best hardware and software solutions for implementing JPEG2000".

JPEG2000 is the next-generation ISO still image and video compression standard.

In July 2005 it was adopted by the Digital Cinema Initiative (DCI) as the format for the storage and distribution of major motion pictures.

JPEG2000 addresses several weaknesses inherent in existing video formats by improving visual fidelity at high compression rates, increasing error resiliency in wireless network environments and providing efficient lossy and lossless coding in one single source file.
