Keithley gains green recognition
The environmental management system at the Keithley Instruments design, production and distribution operations in Solon, Ohio has been certified to be in compliance with ISO14001.
The environmental management system at the Keithley Instruments design, production, and distribution operations at Aurora Road and Bainbridge Road in Solon, Ohio has been certified to be in compliance with the ISO14001, 1996 International Environmental Management System Standard.
Smithers Quality Assessments (SQA), a leading independent accredited registrar, audited the company's entire environmental management system.
Environmental conservation systems and recycling initiatives have a long history at Keithley, and the move to certification has enhanced the company's existing efforts.
By 1993, for example, Keithley had been recycling electronic manufacturing waste for more than 20 years.
In that year, the company instituted a program to recycle corrugated cardboard, white paper, and aluminium cans.
During calendar year 2001, the company recycled more than 47,000 pounds of paper, 133,000 pounds of corrugated cardboard, 240 cubic yards of wooden pallets, 3,481 pounds of electronic manufacturing waste, 302 pounds of batteries and 1139 lamps.
The company also installed a new water wash system with a closed loop purification system that resulted in saving 38,000 gallons of water and 13MWh of electricity per month.
Keithley Instruments is committed to continuous improvement, and is already working towards eliminating lead based solder in all products beginning in 2005, a full year ahead of European requirements.
