"Currently there are a handful of devices that take advantage of MMCmobile, but as cellphones and other mobile digital products are released with more features in a smaller form factor, we expect to see MMCmobile become widely used over the next 18 months", said Thomas Marschner, Vice President, Sales and Marketing Europe, Kingston Technology.
The flexibility of smaller size and dual operating voltage ranges offered by MMCmobile make it ideally suited for mobile device applications where space-saving and extending battery life is essential.
Kingston Technology MMCmobile cards will initially release in 128 and 256Mbyte formats, shipping in quantity at the end of the month.
Larger capacity MMCmobile cards will follow as digital device needs dictate.
To maximise flexibility and ease of use for the end user, Kingston Technology's MMCmobile cards will ship with an adapter to allow them to fit into the standard MMC card size format.
MMCmobile cards are backward compatible with legacy host devices built to previous MultiMediaCard standards.
Kingston Technology's MMCmobile cards are also compatible with devices such as the Nokia 6630, 6620i, 6680, 6681 and 6682.
