Small-format SD cards boost storage to 4Gbyte

MicroSDHC cards are perfect to meet the rising communication and multimedia demands of mobile phones and digital devices.

Kingston Technology Company is releasing a new series of microSD high-capacity (SDHC) Flash memory cards, starting with a 4Gbyte microSDHC card in a Class 4 speed rating.

Providing speed and capacity increases in the smallest footprint available, Kingston microSDHC cards are perfect to meet the rising communication and multimedia demands of mobile phones and digital devices able to take advantage of the advanced expansion memory platform.

"As next-generation mobile phones promise cutting edge functionality in ever-smaller form factors, demands increase on hardware to deliver these features, particularly in the area of expansion memory where storage and read/write performance becomes greater", says Jim Selby, Product Marketing Manager EMEA, Kingston Technology.

"Kingston is following the natural progression of mobile technology and we timed our microSDHC roll-out to be in step as the need materialises", adds Selby.

The microSDHC 4Gbyte card, part number SDC4/4GB, is the first offering in the Kingston microSDHC product line.

This format is the predominant mobile memory standard and handsets such as Nokia's 5310, 5610, E90, N81 and N95 as well as LG Electronics' VX8550, VX8700 and VX9400 mobile phones are fully compatible with it.

Concurrent with the release of the 4Gbyte card, Kingston is launching a microSDHC 4Gbyte adapter pack including a mini- and a full-size SD adapter, helping consumers to use their microSDHC cards with PCs, laptops and other digital devices.

Able to hold more than 2000 images, 1000 digital music tracks or 8 hours of MPEG4 video, the Kingston 4Gbyte microSDHC card surpasses capacities beyond the 2Gbyte threshold of the original microSD card format.

Although identical in physical size to the original microSD card, microSDHC is compatible with microSDHC host devices only and not backward compatible with standard microSD-enabled devices or readers.
