Five Kemet employees have been honoured for technical articles submitted to the 2003 Capacitor and Resistor Technology Symposium (CARTS).

Kemet employees won both the John D Moynihan Best Paper Award and the Outstanding Paper Award.

Winning papers were selected by the CARTS delegates and the programme committee.

The 2003 Best Paper Award was presented to co-authors Michael Randall, PhD, MBA, Director of Application Specific Business Identification; Abhijit Gurav, PhD, Technology Manager, Microscopy and Failure Analysis; Daniel Skamser, PhD, Technical Associate; and James Beeson, PhD, Director of Ceramic Platform Development.

Their technical treatise, "Lifetime modelling of sub 2 micron dielectric thickness BME MLCC", examines accelerated life performance of base metal electrode (BME) MLCCs and correlates highly accelerated life test (HALT) performance with time-to-failure (TTF) data.

John Prymak, Product Manager Applications, was named recipient of the 2003 Outstanding Paper Award for his submission, "Derating differences in tantalum-MnO2 vs tantalum-polymer vs aluminum-polymer", a comparative analysis of the derating values of each component and the impact of materials and processes on these devices.

"We congratulate our winners on their success and continued pursuit of excellence in electronic design and functionality", said Jeff Graves, Kemet's Chief Executive Officer.

"These awards reflect Kemet's commitment to developing and providing leading-edge passive technology solutions and our leadership in establishing innovative standards".

Kemet has been an active contributor to CARTS, winning awards for technical submissions numerous times during the symposium's 24-year history.

This year's conference is dedicated to the memory of Brian Melody, a Kemet Senior Technical Associate and faithful participant in CARTS for over 20 years.

Melody passed away 17th March 2004.
