Cabinets secure five-star hosting services

A Knurr product story
Edited by the Electronicstalk editorial team Oct 5, 2005

To ensure "five star" quality and security for its customers' IT equipment, Redbus Interhouse has installed several hundred Knurr Miracel 19in highly secure cabinets in its London facilities.

Redbus Interhouse (UK) is the UK division of Europe's most advanced, independent colocation and managed services provider, operating three state-of-the-art data centres in London's Docklands.

To ensure that the company maintains "five star" quality and security for its customers' IT equipment, Redbus Interhouse has installed several hundred Knurr Miracel 19in highly secure cabinets in its London facilities.

This includes a new generation of innovative Knurr colocation cabinets.

The Redbus Interhouse (UK) data centres use Knurr Miracel 19in x 47U, full height, secure cabinets, bayed with secure side panels and freely configured to enable a range of alternative installation options to suit customers' specific needs.

Also installed are a new generation of purpose designed Knurr CoLocation 19in x 47U four-part 11U high, very secure cabinets to satisfy customers with smaller data requirements.

As an alternative solution for some customers with large data requirements, separate caged areas supplied by Knurr, each contain three 19in x 47U cabinets.

All cabinet front doors provide independent, uniquely coded secure access, with each door having its own combination security lock, neatly integrated into the door handle.

Secure rear door entry for all cabinets is only possible by Redbus Interhouse staff to maintain their interface power and outward IT connections as customers require.

Redbus Interhouse is the ideal environment for IT systems, housing, powering, connecting and protecting its customers' valuable data at a far lower cost than operating from in-house.

This reflects a growing trend for companies to outsource the location of their data management and communications hardware to highly secure purpose built facilities.

All the Knurr cabinets are supplied with front/rear 19in rails and power strips, with a large mix of alternative PDU and shelving options.

Perforated front and rear doors assist cabinet thermal management with other door options readily available, including various innovative keypad activated security locks.

Knurr also provides a unique and comprehensive range of integrated RMS (remote management system), providing sensing, control and monitoring of cabinet systems, including management of power, environment, shock/vibration and secure access, which can include electronic keypad door entry and remote monitoring and control via FTP.

Other equipment includes the Knurr range of highly compact 1U high, TFT industrial standard flat screens, with fully functioned keyboard and controls.

Mounted on slides they fold neatly away into a cabinet.

Also available is Knurr's unique expertise and advise on cabinet thermal management issues, including complete thermal audits, giving thermal imaging patterns, clearly illustrated in colour printouts.
