Kontron has released a 4U eight-slot CompactPCI high-density packet switched platform for OEM telecomms and datacomms applications where rack space and value are key concerns.

Kontron has released a 4U eight-slot CompactPCI high-density packet switched platform for OEM telecomms and datacomms applications where rack space and value are key concerns.

The XL-LP42, built on the PICMG 2.16 specification, provides a key building block for standards-based solutions and expands Kontron's 2.16 compliant platform family which includes the XL-VHDS and XL-PSB CompactPCI platforms.

Compatible with a wide range of modular off-the-shelf embedded components and providing support for major operating systems and real time software, the new XL-LP42 significantly speeds application development.

The platform allows users to route signals across the 2.16-compliant backplane without the use of cables, saving set-up, maintenance, and repair time.

Seven CompactPCI slots support 32bit/33MHz or 64bit/66MHz system and peripheral processor boards; and one slot is dedicated for a PICMG 2.16-compliant switched fabric processor such as Kontron's new XL-ES24 CompactPCI Fast Ethernet switch.

In addition, two PCIbus segments with H.110 telephony bus are routed to peripheral slots on each segment.

The XL-LP42 packet switched platform provides extremely high computing density combined with efficient thermal management, featuring innovative side-to-rear cooling and a hot-swappable blower tray with two blowers.

N+1 load sharing 200W AC or DC power supplies, as well as processor boards, are also hot-swappable to provide built-in redundancy.

An optional intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) chassis management module continuously monitors the status of multiple system processor boards and reports potential problems, enabling customers to manage multiple boards while conducting remote diagnostics for increased system reliability.

The IPMI chassis management module also supports SNMP and Telnet.

The new system, which features a compact 4U, 19in rack-mount design, measures 436 x 178 x 311mm, weighs 13.7kg, and has an operating temperature of 5 to 40C.

The XL-LP42 is available for immediate delivery in OEM quantities.
