The 886LCD-M/mITX is based on the popular Intel Pentium M processor, part of Intel Centrino mobile technology.

The Intel 855GME and the Intel 6300ESB ICH Southbridge, with features including serial ATA, serve as a chipset.

In addition to providing the usual interfaces, Kontron also uniquely offers a standard AGP slot on the MiniITX.

With the 886LCD-M/mITX, Kontron has once again justified its reputation as a technology leader.

Further products from this series will be based on Intel Pentium 4 and ULV Intel Celeron processors.

The main application areas for this MiniITX motherboard are point-of-sales/point-of-information, gaming and infotainment, measurement technology, lotteries and banking.

It also finds use in "classic" applications in industrial PCs or applications requiring sophisticated graphics.

Use of Intel embedded components guarantees an availability of 5 years.

Any graphics needs can be met with the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 integrated into the Intel 855GME Northbridge and the onboard LVDS transmitter for LCD control and AGP slot.

Standard AGP graphics cards or Kontron's ADD LVDS cards can be operated via the AGP slot.

The Intel 6300ESB ICH Southbridge offer a conventional 32bit/33MHz PCIbus as well as the technologically advanced and cost-effective serial ATA interface, USB 2.0 and SoftRAID.

Besides two ATA/100 interfaces, two serial ATA/150 IDE controllers have been implemented for the first time ever, creating considerable cost and performance advantages: In comparison with parallel ATA technology, serial ATA offers a point-to-point connection, enabling every connected device to use the full bandwidth.

In addition, hot plugs, small plugs and standard plugs as well as longer cable solutions are available.

CompactFlash Types I and II are optionally available.

Apart from incorporating these new technologies, the MiniITX motherboard 886LCD-M/mITX offers functions such as a feature connector with several GPIOs, a watchdog timer and monitoring functions for temperature and fans.

The following features are offered: flat-screen support for two independently controlled displays; up to 1Gbyte of PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM (including ECC); interfaces comprising three gigabit LAN (optional), four USB 2.0, four RS232, LPT and PS/2 for keyboard/mouse; dual SATA/150, dual ATA/100 IDE controller and CompactFlash Types I and II (optional); AC3-, Sound Blaster 16- and SPDIF-compatible sound card, line-in and microphone terminal; and a PCI slot for expansion components and an AGP slot for graphics cards.

The Socket 478 on the 886LCD-M/mITX motherboard enables use of the 1.6GHz 0.13-micron Intel Pentium M or the Intel Pentium M based on the new 90nm technology, depending on requirements.

An alternative for the cost-conscious is the Intel Celeron M.

The cache varies from 512Kbyte (Intel Celeron M) to 2Mbyte (90nm Intel Pentium M).
