Kontron will showcase the capabilities of ETXexpress-PM, the first COM Express solution based on the IntelPentium M processor 760 and new Intel 915GM chipset, with a demonstration unit at Embedded World 2005.
The lead product in Kontron new ETXexpress computer-on-module (COM) product family, the ETXexpress-PM is fast and puts the latest interface technologies at the fingertips of embedded application designers.
The ETXexpress-PM is built around the Intel Pentium M processor 760 and Intel 915GM chipset, which is the first mobile platform to offer PCI Express functionality with extended life cycle support.
The ETXexpress-PM delivers up to 2.13GHz performance and up to 2Gbyte DDR2-DIMM RAM.
For applications that require advanced real-time video capabilities, the ETXexpress-PM has both Intel Extreme Graphics 2 and PCI Express graphics.
Fast communications are possible courtesy of the 10/100Base-T Ethernet port that will be upgraded to be gigabit ready in future ETXexpress COMs.
Sample ETXexpress-PM modules will be available in late Q1 2005.
Kontron expects to offer production units priced starting at approximately $730 in small quantities (actual pricing may vary).
In mid-2003, Kontron initiated a movement to bring PCI Express technology into COMs.
This movement was later bolstered by Intel.
The support of other leading embedded technology companies was achieved by January 2004 and, together with the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG), work on the COM Express specification officially began in early 2004.
Based on the upcoming COM Express standard, ETXexpress products are next generation embedded modules that bring advanced technology to tomorrow's applications.
Built around serial differential signalling technologies, ETXexpress modules incorporate interfaces for PCI Express, Serial ATA, USB 2.0, LVDS, Serial DVO and much more into a 95 x 125mm small form factor embedded module.
ETXexpress modules provide the highest available performance on the smallest state of the art embedded modules.
Additionally, by following the modular concept for embedded design, ETXexpress modules safeguard R and D investments and lower total cost of ownership.
