Kontron's family of ATX-compatible motherboards has just got bigger, with the introduction of the 886LCD-M/mITX(BGA).

The board has a soldered ultra-low voltage 600MHz Mobile Intel Celeron processor and an Intel 855GME/6300ESB embedded chip set.

This robust, fanless miniature motherboard, which measures only 170 x 170mm, is designed for cost-sensitive applications that need low power and passive cooling.

Highlights include a cost-effective combination of graphics integrated chip set, LVDS interface and AGP/DVO slot, serial ATA 150 with RAID-0/1 support, four USB 2.0 ports, a 10/100 Ethernet port, and four RS232 interfaces.

The board is designed for long-term availability and is used in point-of-sale or point-of-information applications, the gaming and infotainment industry, banking and measurement technology, medical equipment and industrial computers.

The 886LCD-M/mITX(BGA) provides dazzling graphics thanks to the Intel Extreme Graphics 2 controller, which is integrated into the chipset.

The board has VGA, on-board LVDS and AGP/DVO graphics interfaces.

The AGP/DVO interface can be used for a standard external AGP graphics card and for ADD cards, which allow a second LCD connection at low cost.

Several ADD cards are available from Kontron.

An on-board AC-97/DD5.1 interface or an on-board stereo amplifier provides high quality sound.

Besides a 32bit/33MHz PCI slot, the 886LCD-M/mITX (BGA) also offers the future-proof serial ATA interface and Soft RAID 0/1 for fail-safe data storage with multiple hard drives.

In addition to two traditional ATA-100 interfaces, the 886LCD-M/mITX(BGA) is enhanced by the integration of two fast serial ATA 150 IDE interfaces.

In contrast to parallel ATA technology, serial ATA offers point-to-point connection, allowing any connected storage medium to use the entire bandwidth.

Moreover, serial ATA offers a 'hot-plug' capability, smaller plugs, longer cables and standardised layout and construction.

The 886LCD-M/mITX (BGA) can support up to 1GB DDR333 SDRAM and has a 400MHz front side bus.
