The ThinkIO-Duo top-hat fanless PC addresses complex applications that demand the high standards of Intel Dual-core technology.

New from Kontron, the ThinkIO-Duo is the latest model in the company's top-hat fanless PC range.

Complex applications that demand the high standards of Intel Dual-core technology will thrive from its robust design and high computing performance.

The extremely compact Kontron ThinkIO-Duo (70mm deep, 35mm slot level) is equipped with an Intel Core Duo U2500 processor with a clock rate of 2 x 1.2GHz and 512Mbyte or 1Gbyte of RAM.

Along with high computing performance and internal Flash (512Mbyte/2Gbyte), this passively cooled PC, also offers a customisable CompactFlash socket for data storage or backups/updates, 512Kbyte nonvolatile memory and all the standard PC interfaces (two USB 2.0s, RS232, DVI-I).

Three LAN interfaces make it simple to connect a variety of media such as cameras or a WLAN router.

Users can also implement an Ethernet-based software fieldbus.

In addition, remote access/monitoring and control or connection to the company's MES or ERP systems and databases are possible.

There are also interrupt-capable onboard inputs which can be used for rapid reaction to extreme events, such as activating a cutoff switch.

Watchdog and real-time clocks round out the system's features.

Similar to all the Kontron ThinkIO family, the option is available for the Wago 750/753 I/O clamps to be connected directly.

The Kontron ThinkIO-Duo is available with Windows XP Embedded Embedded or a Linux OSADL software package.

The dual-core technology used with Linux or Windows XPe makes symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) possible, offering the user more computing performance without a significant increase in thermal design power.

Another component of dual core technology is Intel virtualisation technology, which makes hardware administration even simpler.

Kontron offers its OEM customers the opportunity to significantly reduce their time to market with the Kontron ThinkIO-Duo.

By building applications on the integrated platform offered by the Kontron ThinkIO, designers will now be able to focus on other items such as software development and system integration.

In addition, the total cost of ownership is kept low by the maintenance-free, flexible, and robust design of the Kontron ThinkIO-Duo.
