The Kontron 10Gigabit Ethernet integrated platform OM9020 provides cost savings by eliminating the need for an AdvancedTCA switch board, which is replaced by an on-board Ethernet switch.

Kontron has released the OM9020 AdvancedTCA 10Gigabit Ethernet integrated platform that elegantly resolves the price versus performance concerns of telecom equipment manufacturers who need to design nonredundant systems for edge and access applications used in data centre, regional CO and enterprise networks As a two-slot, space-saving 2U AdvancedTCA platform, the Kontron OM9020 provides cost savings by eliminating the need for an AdvancedTCA switch board, which is replaced by an on-board Ethernet switch

This enables a Fat Pipe interconnect between the two slots via the backplane.

For external connectivity, the platform features 2/10Gigabit Ethernet uplink modules that access the switching fabric and base interfaces, also via the backplane.

Each module is hot swappable and is dedicated to one AdvancedTCA board.

The Shelf Manager has been replaced by a software implementation hosted on either Kontron AdvancedTCA board and provides a cost-efficient shelf management solution to provide sensor data to the platform's system alarm panel.

The Kontron OM9020 comes pre-integrated with one very high density, multicore processor board, the Kontron AT8030, featuring three Intel Core 2 Duo processors each with dedicated memory, a 10Gigabit Ethernet fabric interface and one AdvancedMC slot for a SATA storage module.

The second board, the Kontron AT8404, is an AdvancedTCA 10Gigabit Ethernet AMC carrier board that supports Gigabit Ethernet, PCIe and SAS/SATA connectivity across four slots for various combinations of storage, processing and TDM / IO AdvancedMC modules.

Optionally, RTMs may be used in the back for SAS connections to external storage, as well as for FE and RS232 management interfaces.

Other platform features include a 48V DC power feed with an option for AC to DC power convertor, plus hot-swappable and managed fans and support for Windows Server 2003, Wind River Linux PNE 2.6, Red Hat 4.0 and IPMI 1.5.
